Description
I found these stone steps during an excursion to Lake Cleveland in southern Idaho. The trail climbed steadily through the trees, winding past granite boulders and mountain wildflowers as it worked its way uphill.
I wasn’t alone that day. There were other people on the trail, and the sounds of conversation carried through the forest. Yet when I framed this photograph, none of that seemed to matter. The image felt quiet and personal, as though the path belonged to no one at all.
What drew me to the scene was the feeling of movement and possibility. The steps disappear into the trees, inviting the viewer to continue upward without revealing exactly what waits ahead. To me, it felt like ascending toward a higher place—not necessarily a destination, but a state of mind.
The photograph reminds me that even when life is noisy, there are moments when we can focus on the path in front of us and simply keep moving forward, one step at a time.
