Small cascade flowing through rocks and bright green grass, where the vegetation and water subtly suggest a heart shape in the center of the stream

Sideways, Still Worth It March 7, 2026

The end of the week went a little sideways. Nothing major, just enough to cut into the time I usually set aside for photography and editing.

I wasn’t feeling 100%, but my photo adventure companion had a new lens that needed to be put through its paces, so we went anyway.

We made good time heading toward our original destination, the eagle tree, and decided to stop along the way at Niagara Springs. It’s one of those places that’s well known locally. The waterfalls aren’t dramatic, but they don’t need to be. Spring water moving down the canyon wall over dark rock, with just enough green starting to push through, was enough to slow down and pay attention.

At dinner in Wendell, we were told the warmer weather might have pushed the eagles out earlier than usual—they hadn’t been around in large numbers the past few days. Fortunately for us, the eagles showed up. We saw at least a dozen bald eagles.

Not every outing needs to be perfect. Not every week goes as planned. Sometimes you just go anyway, and that’s enough.
